John Merck Fund Announces 2013 Developmental Disabilities Translational Research Program Guidelines and Application Process

Preliminary Proposal Deadline: May 15, 2013

The John Merck Fund has had a longstanding interest in people with intellectual and developmental disorders since its inception in 1970. In 2012, JMF launched the Developmental Disabilities Translational Research Program, which will support researchers in developing treatments and improving outcomes for individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome (and FX associated disorders).

The Developmental-Behavioral Pediatric (DBP) Long Term Trainees Annual Leadership Meeting

The Developmental-Behavioral Pediatric (DBP) long term trainees Annual Leadership Meeting was held in Providence, Rhode Island from March 28 through March 30, 2012. Activities included fellows presenting their research projects, feedback from faulty on the research projects, small group discussion (ex: How to find your first DBP job), as well as a Symposium on Life Course Trajectory and Advocacy.

The Institute for Community Inclusion's Ashley Wolfe Is Awarded "Research in Action" Award for Self-Advocate Researchers

The Arc of the United States has awarded the Institute for Community Inclusion's (ICI-Boston) Ashley Wolfe with the 2011 Research in Action award. Wolfe was presented with this for her significant contributions to Participatory Action Research efforts in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Her research and work has made her a respected member of the research field and this award is an acknowledgement by her colleagues and peers of her numerous contributions to I/DD research at ICI and Boston University.

Inclusion in Research - Documenting Capacity to Consent

This brief document was developed to help researchers develop consent procedures that 1) ensure participants understand study procedures and 2) demonstrate this population has the capacity to consent to research participation.
